Bien Venidos a Costa Rica!!
Pura vida mai! Last night, after we got sent to the back of
the plane (apparently Annie and Piper were too loud because of their overload
on candy), the five hour flight with two screaming babies, seemed to pass
pretty quickly, at least for Sra. Monterroso it did. After making it through customs and baggage
claim, we somehow managed to find our bus and pile in for another long two hour
trip. When we got to Chilamate Rainforest Eco Retreat Lodge, we were surrounded
by a wonderful breakfast. We stuffed ourselves until our bellies were about to
burst. Because of this, our delightful guides decided to take us on a three
hour hike through the tropical rainforest with snakes, bugs, and a flea-infested
dog (who we nicknamed Poison Dart Dog). When we stopped to take a short break in
a nearby stream, everyone stampeded the water not realizing that it contained steep
slopes with flesh-eating minnows. One of the poor victims of these fishies was
the unfortunate Christian Luskey as he was doing the dead man’s float. Soon
after, we packed up and headed back to the lodge. On the way, our instructors
decided not to warn us about the Indiana-Jones-sized ants. The ants decided to
play a lovely game of
see-who-can-suck-the-most-blood-out-of-the-innocent-human-beings-first. Good time for a jog. We had lunch and then enjoyed a much
appreciated rest period that was somewhat disturbed by an unharmonious chorus
of cicadas (and giggling kids, says Sra. Monterroso). After, we engaged in team building activities
and learned a few TMI’s from Christian. We
appreciated dinner and ended our day with a final team meeting and this entry! Hope you’re having fun in America!! J
Love,
Annie, Piper, Rachel, Maryam, Mollie, Hope, Emma, Sarah,
Garrett, Cameron, Christian, and Sra. Monterroso

Sounds like you're having fun. Ask Maryam if the cicadas miss her dad. Her hamster is not dead yet. We will keep trying. Miss you.
We love hearing about all the details - keep the messages coming. Annie, your dad and brothers treated me to breakfast in bed and made sure I had a relaxing Mother's Day. We miss you. Don't let the bedbugs bite!
